2- The shoot

Most people get hung up on the shoot without thinking about the other 3 parts 25% won’t get you there.

Most people think this is the hard yet fun part. And they are right to a degree.

🍿 If you hire a director, videographer, wardrobe stylist, locations etc. it becomes very hard and time-consuming. There are many moving pieces and it all needs to work together.

This was my life for 20 years and while I loved it, it is not for the faint of heart. 📺

You need to make sure you have “coverage” and B roll as well as hitting all the main points in the script. 🎥

Tomorrow may be too late to make changes. The crew is not coming back for free!!

The excitement of saying -Quiet on the set and — Action are Hollywood narratives and they just mean let’s do this.

🔥 (I had 40,000 on the set in Hollywood living this stress)

While the meetings and hub-bub around getting every detail just right before the camera arrives is “creative” it can also be very stressful.

✅ The more people you have making decisions the harder it is to get everything everyone expects.

I’m a big believer that less is more in this case as long as you are working with the right people who have your end goal in mind and not theirs you will succeed.

✅ However, If you keep it simple using a webcam, simple light, and use your home or office as a location it is so much easier.

The other option is a VSL or explainer video using animation and motion graphics which are 100% created inside of a computer. Changes are easy and controllable. ☀️

Yes, even an animation requires creating the assets for the prep or shoot, and putting it together is the shoot or edit.

Semantics are out the window here as far as I’m concerned.

💥 What you need is a valid idea and execution of that idea into a video that will get you an ROI.

👉 Ego is the #1 thing holding a lot of people back from creating a video that can grow their business.

✭ Camera confidence is very real and can be overcome.

✭ Scripting and using a teleprompter are learned skills.

✭ Lighting and sound are technical challenges that can be easily overcome.

There are 100’s of tips and tricks that can be used to look like a pro on video and each person requires something different.

I have been on the front lines with Jerry Seinfeld, Rutger Hauer, Kevin Costner, Ridley Scott, Debra Messing, and Lucile Ball to name a few. Each has a different way to be their best self on camera.

🔥 Once you find your groove the shooting part becomes easy and profitable.
